OUR MOST IMPORTANT SKILL IN LIFE?

OUR CAPCITY TO SELF HEAL.

The human body is a healing machine. That is because it has evolved through countless lives, and countless events of being broken. We should never be surprised by our need to heal a given thing. This is the work of any living thing that has to engage with life. It sucks to break. It sucks to be ill. But what feels than better than to find our way back to health, to restore our ability to savor our life?

WE ARE BORN TO BREAK BUT WE ARE ALSO WIRED TO HEAL.

As we age, we will spend an increasing portion of our lives trying to fix ourselves from one thing or another. If you follow this practice, you may have some familiarity with my tree of wisdom, which ia how the shcool organizes the understanding of human nature. At the top of this tree, the governing parts of our existence are the branches of our spirit, which are energy, awareness, and self healing. These cascade down to assist us in our other two worlds of emotion and physcial expression. This is how important self healing is. I emphasize the idea of self healing over the generic idea of healing because we have a tendency to place too much emphasis on waiting for others to fix us when our higher mind, our most powerful self knows that we must empower our capacity to heal whatever we can whenever we have the chance to do so. In truth, all healing is self healing. If you break a bone and go to the doctor, they simply set the bone in a position for your body to heal itself. Most drugs that heal simply kick start or boost our system's ability to heal itself. Many drugs send chemical signals into our systems to amplify our innate healing processes, or perhaps they help to rid us of unwanted nasties compromising our immune systems, so that we can more effectively engage those same internal healing processes.

Tthis discussion is yet another one filled with reflections between our inner and outer worlds, something I love to do. Just as our bodies are in a constant state of managing some form of injury, whether signicant, minor, genetically related, or perhaps purging some unwanted unhealthy cells, our souls are in a constant state of trying to keep our systems healthy. When we are generally healthy, we are still constantly healing, only we do not notice it because the momentum of our health is positive. When we go past the tipping point in our health, we begin to notice our self healing process because we are tired, taxed, and we are not sure if our self healing capacity is winning or losing its battles.

To be healthy in our mind or body, that health must be proactive. Healing must become a thing we embrace, not as something we do only when we break down, but something we are constantly in the process of doing, through our living practices. To understand our most powerful processes of self healing we need to pull back the curtain of the fabric of who we are, and that is a humbling yet enlightening thing to do. If there is such a thing as enlighenment, this is a huge part of that state of being. We cannot be aware, create healthy energy, and yet be clueless as to our need and ability to heal ourselves. Deep healing requires us to get a little deep because all things in life that carry us upward and/or forward are the result of some deeper understanding of our nature that we choose to empower. Fearlessly understand your physical system for what it is and embrace your natural ability to heal beyond what you may think you are able to. And know that pursuit is going to take you to a lot of places where people, even experts disagree, science is still trying to figure it out, or certain healing strategies differ and must adapt to different genetic dispositions.

DR. ME

To some degree, we must all become our own doctors in life, sooner or later. Sure, we have our professional physicians nearby to do the things we cannot and should not tackle. Still, we need to be more than clueless people waiting to break down before we address our states of injury. Had a long day? Taking a little nap after work? There you go. Step one in being your own doctor. The little things. Rest. Diet. Breathing and circulation. Something hurting your stomach when you eat it? Are you going to stop eating that? Step two in being your own doctor. Still eating it anyway? You are at war with your self healing wisdom. You are fighting your higher self and you are being, at least to some degree, an idiot. There, I said it, because I know many people who keep doing things that are hurting them, or perhaps even killing them, and they continue to do them. Why? Those are the things we need to tug at the roots of in this study. The answer is often habit and understanding how our systems like to gravitate topredictable things even if those things are destroying us.

Then we have the reality of the business of healing. An enormous industry of which much is more concerned with money than health. When we go to a car mechanic and we know nothing about our car, they kow. They know in how we communicate, in our sense of cluelessness, and that is how many car mechanics make a living. They make the most money from those who do not know a carborator from a spark plug. If we know the basics about cars, which we can learn in a day really, suddenly we can demand more intelligence and honesty from our mechanic, not to mention ourselves. I wish this wasn’t true in the case of our personal health, and it certainly isn’t to level of the sketchy world of car repair, but its a close second. Drugs are often prescribed because doctors and hospitals have deals with drug companies to sell those drugs. Simple remedies are often left out in favor of expensive treatments as there is no money is simple remedies. Yes, there are good dcotors, great doctors, who do not subscribe to this methodology, but medicine is a business, and so the result of capitalsim and medicine is naturally a very twisted beast at best. One in which modern miracles are possible, but so too the ability to find ourselves in meaningless, costly treatements that can leave us worse off than before we started them. And then we have archaic notions, like the food served at hospitals, cancer patients being fed sugars and complex carbohydrates known for years to be fuel for cancer growth. No point in getting angry. This is the world and the world is just asking us if we want to do our due dilligence in having some understanding of our own healing process.

We also need to take note that these big tocket items are not things we need to ruch into. Yes, things can get complex and we can shake our head at the complexity of th ehuman body, the opposing views pertianing to treatments, the intermixed worlds of highly effective old school medicines and herbs with new age quack medicine. Look at it this way. You have 10-30 years to wrap your head one pice at a time around what the basics are pertaining your own healing mechanisms depending on your health. Th emost important things are simple. Deep breathing. Geeting lot sof oxegen in your system. Movement so your blood can do its job properly. Resr. You don't have to sleep to get rest. You just need to slow down and relax. Stretch! Flwxibility is so under rated. Just 5 minutes a day of stretching can save you all kinds of injuries down the road. And of course, having a healthy diet as a base and then adding a few treats on top, instead of a lousy diet as a base, and adding something occasionally healthy to make you feel less guilty. These basics are all known, simple. They are nothing new and why should they be? The oldest medicine is in our bodies ability to heal if we help it to do so.

THE GIFT OF HEALING

Like so many things in life, we get comfortable and forget how valuable somethings really are. Most of us, if not all of us, come from a history in which our job is to shut up and get to work. We get hurt and we are expected to shut up and keep working. In empirical socities, people are readily availabe and, for the most, part worthless. When you are a slave for a king you dn;t get to choose what you eat or when you eat. YOu don't get to sneak in a yoga class. You don't even get to educate yourself on anything other than what you are asked to do. So, this is where we come from. Maybe 4 generations, maybe 3, maybe 2, or even 1 away. Regardless, we need to embrace the gift of being able to take care of our selves and see it as a gift and not a burden.

While it can be incredibly costly to go to the doctor, the most powerful tools in our arsenal are not expensive. Healthy diet, and foods targeted to help our systems. The removal of toxic foods, which usually saves us money! Deep breathing and movement. Oxygen is a huge catalyst for our healing processes. And stretching, something I smack people around for as it is one of the most neglected and simple things people do not do that can save us from many injuries. All this said , we will take a deep diveinto this subject over the coming months, but let's start by taking a little survey.
