ARE WE READY for the TRUTH?
There is this notion of being ready for truth. Perhaps we hear this in movies. You want to know the truth? You are not ready for the truth! And there is some truth in this for many of us. The question is, if we had the truth, what would we do with that truth? Anything? Would it change anything? Or perhaps might it just confuse us all the more? In life, we come to our truths. And if you look into that statement, it tells a story. Our truth, not always the truth. We find and embrace truths that work for us.
If we should walk into a spiritual path and ask for spiritual truth, we are often not ready. We think we are ready, but we are usually not. Real truth, undeniable truth, is rarely what we want it to be. It is humbling. It can be deeply disturbing and uncomfortable, not to mention threatening to everything we know and understand about life. So are we ready? Real truth also opens up a pandoras box of reality. How some things make sense and hold their truths in some places and not in others. IN other words, how truth can Abe relative to times, places and situations. Hard to hang your hat on a moving target! And so if we are seeking solid ground in our search for truth, we will find that pure truth is more like standing on the ocean that it is standing on solid ground.
We make our way back to solid ground. Solid ground is our truth. It is not all truth. It is not as pure, diverse and complete as the ocean. It is a place that has it truth and is able to work with the “truth” of others things as best as possible. We are all nourished by the ocean of wisdom if we are wise. But we do not live in the ocean. We are defined by places and positions which all have a way of defining our truth. Giving us something we must work with, and therefore asking us to craft a truth that allows us to prevail in our circumstances.
I would argue that truth is in fact a bitter pill. A jagged little pill, thank you Allison. And yes, the wisest part of us wants to swallow that pill because at some point, we want to work with reality and find our wisdom in regards to reality and that is always humbling. A path that forces us to confront any bitterness that we may have regarding life and reality. The lotus comes up out of bitterness. And indeed it very much remains at the roots of the lotus. All of the unresolved bitterness at the truth of life, which can be cruel, unconcerned, and always a thing that has gravity..
So, what can I say? Don’t look for truth. Don’t even ask for truth. Ask for lessons. Be open to truth. Ask for truth to come when you are ready. And ask life to give you the courage to be ready. And know that there is a truth that represents the truth of darkness which is the most jagged pill we will ever swallow. We can look around and the truth of our shadow nature s all around us. But to be complete, to embrace our highest wisdom, we must also be open to the truth of the light. And that is the truth that while good may not govern all times and place, in fact in governs a vast minority, that miracles, profound visions, and love are without question running through the fabric of life, and our wisdom can guide us to allowing these things counterbalance the endless shadows and conflicts that make up the drama of life we are all a part of.
Truth does not allow us to win anything. Don’t expect to win anything with truth. The internet is saturated with people all proclaiming to have uncovered some truth and are trying to win the battle(?) with that truth. But is anyone winning? Winning anything? Indeed, the internet is revealing to us just how unimportant truth is. How truth is all relative and it is only what people embrace that really matters. And that there are far too many different situations and circumstances for everyone to all embrace and live by the same “truth.”
I have found my truth and I am simply grateful if life gives me an opportunity to live in that truth. Fortunately I am not alone in this perception of truth and so I have friends to share this with. I am fully aware that even our truth, when found, is just a doorway to a whole lot of work. It requires an intense commitment to live and sustain any form of truth we find. Our truth opens the door to wisdom and it is the wisdom that guides us. That is our key, not the truth. Truth in and of itself is not wisdom. So, are we ready for truth? Maybe not. But we should always ask and be ready for wisdom.
